It’s that time of year here in the North East. My favorite actually! Autumn! Cold nights and warm days, colorful leaves, warm sweaters, hot cocoa and yes, pumpkins! As Albert Camus once said, “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower”. Fall, is a second chance for a colorful display before winter blows in and takes over. I feel it’s a time when we bond and really get close to the ones we love. Snuggle weather! I love the feeling of warm blankets and warm fires. Inside or outside, it doesn’t matter. Many love to decorate this time of year. Autumn displays tucked in here and there, around the outside of your home, gives warm, welcoming feelings. The use of bright pink mums and white pumpkins keeps the look feeling light and friendly at your front door. Adding lanterns gives the display more interest, especially at night, when the timed candles turn on and give a wonderful, warm glow. A garden bench can act as a planter holding dark pink mums and various pumpkins. It’s a simple, by elegant display, in your garden or on your porch or deck.
Displays can be very simple and still give a strong impact. A garden statue holding a pumpkin, looks fun and easy, as does a wall planter filled with some pansies. Keep the look and feel simple. Play around with the colors of fall, as well as the items you want to use in your displays. Make a statement or story with the items you use. Think of things that remind you of fall or harvest. Just keep in mind, balance and harmony of your design. It’s easy to do and fun!!!
