Happy Tuesday! Today it feels like summer here in Connecticut. The sun is shinning, the temperature is around 85 degrees, and humidity has set in. Yep, Summer is here! I want to share with you the Peonies I picked from my Mother’s garden yesterday. I love white Peonies! These have a splash of pink in them. They are beauties! After Roses, Peonies are one of my favorite flowers! They are so lush and full, and have an intoxicating aroma. The peony is a flowering plant in the genus Paeonia, the only genus in the family Paeoniaceae. They are native to Asia, Southern Europe and Western North America. The peony is named after Paeon, a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. When Asclepius became jealous of his pupil, Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius and turned him into the peony flower. Mischievous nymphs were said to hide in the petals of the Peony, giving it the meaning of Shame or Bashfulness in The Language of Flowers. While the peony takes several years to re-establish itself when moved, it blooms annually for decades once it has done so.
I set up a small display of the Peonies on the desk in my family room. The Staffordshire dog figurines blend in nicely with the flowers.
I used this pretty green vase that belonged to my Grandmother (my Mother’s Mom), for the Peonies. The footed base gives it a daintiness and delicate look. I love that it’s my Mom’s flowers, in her Mom’s vase! Very sentimental!
I like to set up small areas of loveliness where ever I can. Using fresh flowers is one of the best ways to accomplish this in your home. It’s so exciting to gather the flowers right out of your garden and display them! How gratifying!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Wishing You a Lovely Week,
LuAnn
My peonies are all gone however my hydrangeas are blooming , I could set them by my white staffordshire dogs which I love also
thanks for sharing
Hi Janice! Yes, the hydrangeas would look beautiful set next to your Staffordshire dogs! Hydrangeas are very full and lush too. I don’t know if our hydrangea plants will bloom this year, we had to cut them all the way down. Nothing was coming back on the old stems, only at the very bottom ;( We have about six large plants in the back of our yard and they were beautiful last year! We would see our blooms in July and would pick them in August. Oh well, maybe next year! Thank you very much for viewing my post!
Have a lovely day,
LuAnn 😉

Oh, I agree. My husband brings flowers in and fills my vases. I love the tiny Cracker Barrel syrup bottle he uses in my powder room. I was gone during peak peony season so only got to enjoy them for a week. I have pink ones but love the white ones, too. And your vase would not be safe if my husband visited. 🙂 ~Pamela
Thanks Pamela! The syrup bottles in your powder room must be very sweet! To bad the peonies don’t last longer! You blink and you can miss them! Thanks for viewing my post.
Have a great weekend,
LuAnn 😉

LuAnn, I love Peonies also! Your mother’s white ones are gorgeous and that vase is fabulous as well! Whenever I buy a Peony at a nursery I make sure I pick one that has a bud. Otherwise you never know how long till it will bloom. Thanks for sharing them with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
