I hope you had a lovely weekend and Valentine’s Day! My husband, Mr. LL, was away this weekend. We celebrated our V-Day together on Sunday. I made heart shaped sugar cookies for him on Saturday. My 12 year old son, Joey, wanted to help me. He had watched an on-line demonstration on making clip-on cookies and thought that they would be perfect. You can clip these cookies onto your glass, cup or mug, depending on the size slit you make in the cookie. How Cute!
The cookies are very easy to make. See my recipe below. Before you bake the cookies make slits in them. The slits should be thick and deep enough, so the cookies sit on the item you are drinking from without falling off. You can use any shape cookie as a slip-on and for any occasion. Teapots for tea parties, baby bottles for baby showers, gingerbread men for Christmas, stars for the 4th of July and so on….
What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than with heart shaped sugar cookies? Who doesn’t like sugar cookies? Here’s a wonderful recipe I found that is a sure crowd pleaser. Be warned! The cookies will not last long!
“The Cookie”
Cream together:
1 c butter
2/3 c sugar
Beat in:
1 egg
Combine and add:
1 tsp. vinilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c (sifted) all-purpose flour
Mix until ingredients are well blended.
Chill dough 1-2 hours.
Before rolling…Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Roll out dough and cut. (not to thin!)
Bake 8 to 10 min. or until barely golden.(Keep an eye on them after 8 min. and take them out when the cookies on the edge of the baking sheet are slightly golden and the rest look unbaked. This is best! )
Frost when cooled or leave plain.
Enjoy!
