Pretty Whites for Summertime Dining

Pretty Whites

I wanted a light look for summer on my dining room table. I stacked my pretty lace design dishes at various heights along with other utilitarian items. Though the dining room is barely used this time of the year, it’s completely visible from the other rooms in my home and I like having it decorated for the current season. I wanted the table vignette to reflect the seasonal decor as well. I thought a white theme would give a light and airy look to the room. You can’t go wrong with using whites.

One trick to a good table vignette is stacking items at different heights. This adds interest to the design or display and keeps it from looking boring. I chose to stack the dishes on these lovely square shaped cake stands. I like how the stands allow you to gather the elements in the display closely together while keeping them elevated.

Pretty WhitesAn antique white terracotta lantern takes center stage and casts a pretty warm glow from the faux candle flickering inside. I love using the new faux candles with the realistic flickering flame. Their timed flame goes on each night and casts a lovely glimmering light around the room. They create a very comforting and welcoming feeling.

Ivory colored napkins have just a touch of black from the Gratitude Script design and embroidered edge. The small use of black adds an elegance to the display and breaks up the white just a bit.

Coffee mugs that match the set are shown here on an antique silver tiered serving tray. The tray gives additional height to the vignette and keeps the mugs together in one area.

Since I was displaying dishes in this vignette, I thought the use of flatware would be appropriate. The table needed flatware and what better way to display it than in an apothecary jar?

These white ceramic artichokes give the table a summery touch. They are whimsical and fun and create texture for the display.

Soft white flower napkin rings help shape the napkins into bows. Placing them on the dishes give a lovely and charming feel to the table display.

My vignette is arranged together in a collage type of format on the table. It’s not totally balanced like in a formal arrangement, but gives an appearance of one.

I would like to take this time to have a proud mommy moment with you. My son, Joseph, had the leading role in his middle school play this past weekend. He was Charlie Brown in a revised version of the Broadway Play “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. He did a wonderful job and I couldn’t be happier!

  1. GREAT IDEA, ELEVATING THE DISHES ON CAKE PLATES AND A VERY UNIQUE WAY TO KEEP THE FLATWARE TOGETHER. LOVE THE SCRIPT NAPKINS. VERY PRETTY CENTERPIECE, LUANN!

    • Hi Bobbi! The apothecary jar is large enough to hold the forks, knives and spoons perfectly, but not too large for the display. I was very pleased with the way it looked. My napkins added just the right amount of black to the design and created the subtle contrast it needed. Thanks for liking my display and for your lovely comments as usual!
Have a lovely Wednesday and week!

  2. Looks wonderful…one can do so much with beautiful white dishes. I β™₯ the idea of putting the flatware in an apothecary. Where did you find the white mum napkin rings…very pretty?

    • Thanks Martina! It’s so funny that your son’s school did the same play and he was in it! Congrats to you too! Our middle school put on the play to kick off their summer reading program. The book this summer is Sparky, it’s about Charles Schulz’s life. The school also received a Movie Theater Poster signed by the producers of the up coming Charlie Brown Movie out this November. That was very exciting for the kids. These kids were busy this year from doing Fiddler on the Roof in April right to practicing this one. I’m glad life can get back to normal soon, but only after he does his Viva Voce Concert on Monday. Can’t wait till next Friday when schools is out! Projects, plays, concerts right to the end…can you believe it! Oh well, it keeps him busy and me too. Lol
      Have a lovely Thursday!

    • Thanks Linda! I’m happy you enjoyed my table display. I bought the set from Amazon and it’s from American Atelier 16-Piece Bianca Medallion Dinnerware Set, in White. Hope this helps!
