Happy Easter! It’s a glorious day and the Holiest Day of the year! I want to share the Easter wreath I have created. I think it symbolizes this day perfectly. I decided to use a faux succulent wreath and adorn it with a few items that symbolize the passion of Jesus Christ. I wanted it to reflect the true meaning of the holiday in the most simplest and humble way. In 776 B.C., wreaths made of laurel leaves were used to crown victors of Olympic Games. I like to think that this wreath represents Jesus as a victor over death.
The wooden cross is from the Holy Land. It’s made of olive wood from the trees much like the ones in the GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE, where Jesus prayed right before he was arrested. I placed a lovely white dove on the cross. The dove represents the Holy Spirit as well as peace and is often portrayed with an olive branch in its mouth. Jesus was blessed by the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove at his baptism. The dove is said to be so pure that it is the one form into which Satan cannot transform himself.
The crown of thorns not only represents the cruelty that Jesus endured during his passion, but also his royalty. He’s our Lord of Lords and King of Kings.
The colorful eggs are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The hard shell of the egg represents the sealed Tomb of Christ, and cracking the shell represents Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Christians would abstain from eating eggs and meat during Lent, and Easter was the first chance to eat eggs after a long period of abstinence.
