There are five large Hydrangea bushes in my back yard. This year only one of them bloomed. How sad, right? I don’t know what happened, but only one was willing to blossom. I am very thankful it was at least one. A few years back I had no Hydrangeas blooming. Fortunately, it was one of the regular Hydrangea plants that bloomed and not one of the Lace Cap Hydrangeas I have growing. The Lace Cap Hydrangeas, though very pretty and elegant, do not dry very well.
I created a Hydrangea arrangement out of the few blooms I was able to harvest from the plant. I like to arrange the flowers in pitchers of water and forget about them for awhile not giving them anymore water. They usually dry out completely after about three weeks. They need good air circulation around them for the best drying effect.
This pretty copper pitcher was perfect for my dried Hydrangea arrangement. I added a few Granny Smith Apples for an early fall display. The green apples blend nicely with the blue/green Hydrangeas.
Creating lovely fall arrangements are easy and fun. I really enjoy all the fruits and flowers that are available to use this time of the year.
I’ve arranged the display on my kitchen counter. It fills up the empty space there nicely. Sometimes it’s hard to find just the right elements to decorate with, especially when it comes to your kitchen. I find using practical items like dishes, bowls and pitchers, combined with natural materials work best in the kitchen.
