Lovely Roses

Roses are a woody perennial of the genus Rosa, within the family Rosaceae. The word rose comes from French, itself from Latin rosa. There are over 100 species with most native to Asia, and smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwest Africa. They form a group of plants that can be erect shrubs, climbing or trailing with stems that are often armed with sharp thorns. The saying, “A rose, is a rose, is a rose” is all but true, for not all roses are the same. Flowers vary in size and shape and are usually large and showy, in colors ranging from white through yellows and reds. Roses instill the feeling of love and adoration in us. They are a beautiful flower with an intoxicating aroma that tickles your senses of sight and smell.
