Designing a Nautical Summer in the Family Room

Nautical Summer

Designing a nautical summer in the family room was easy with just a few beach elements. Some of the items include shells, starfish, sailboats and mini glass buoys. You can find most of these things in just about any home decor and crafting store this time of the year.

I placed a wooden sandpiper figurine and a large starfish next to the terrarium on my coffee table. Their size and shape work perfectly together and make an appropriate summery seaside display.

Inside the terrarium I created a small ocean world.

The mini ocean in the terrarium was created by scattering seashells at the bottom and placing sailboats on top of the shells. The boats look like they are sailing along the shells. Starfish and glass buoys were added to give a fuller look to the display. The sailboats are actually table placement card holders from a popular home decor store.

Americana pillows are found on the sofas for an additional seasonal (4th of July) touch to the room. In my bay window I set a large sailboat. It’s colors are ideal for summer as well as the room.

The sailboat is flanked by lanterns with flickering faux candles. They’re especially lovely at night with their soft warm flickering glow.
