Heavenly Hydrangeas

Heavenly Hydrangeas

My Hydrangeas are blooming this year and they look heavenly! Last year we had no blooms at all. I was very disappointed not having any to dry and display, but this year it’s different! They bloomed! A showing of simply lovely pastel colored blooms fill their bushes. How divine!

Heavenly Hydrangeas

Our Hydrangeas are planted in the back of our yard along the New England stone wall or settlers wall. This and many stone walls are found all over Connecticut and New England. Built by the settlers in this area around 1790-1820, many of these walls are buried under overgrown forests. The wall in our yard goes into the back of other yards and well into the woods. These stone walls are symbols of our New England quaintness. The walls are actual ruins of early American civilization and an awesome human achievement. These stone walls are a hallmark of our American past.

Although it’s a little early to pick the Hydrangeas right now, I couldn’t resist clipping some to make a few arrangements. They don’t last very long when picked young, but it’s well worth it.

I’ll wait until the middle of August to pick more. That’s when they’re mature enough to dry perfectly. Right now the blooms are nice and full for only a few days and then wilt. When they mature they usually dry with full blooms and appear darker. That’s ok, their darker colors fit right into my decor easily.

I love how their petals look so soft and dainty. Almost tissue paper like.
