October Month of the Rosary

Our Lady of the Rosary
Feast Day: October 7
“If you say the Rosary faithfully until death, I do assure you that, in spite of the gravity of your sins ‘you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory.’ Even if you are on the brink of damnation, even if you have one foot in hell, even if you have sold your soul to the devil as sorcerers do who practice black magic, and even if you are a heretic as obstinate as a devil, sooner or later you will be converted and will amend your life and will save your soul, if– and mark well what I say– if you say the Holy Rosary devoutly every day until death for the purpose of knowing the truth and obtaining contrition and pardon for your sins.” -St. Louis de Montfort

Catholics celebrate the month of October as the Month of the Rosary. Today, October 7th, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Here is a prayer from the early 20th century that asks the Virgin Mary to accompany us in our recitation of the Rosary.

O Virgin Mary, grant that the recitation of thy Rosary may be for me each day, in the midst of my manifold duties, a bond of unity in my actions, a tribute of filial piety, a sweet refreshment, an encouragement to walk joyfully along the path of duty. Grant, above all, O Virgin Mary, that the study of thy fifteen mysteries may form in my soul, little by little, a luminous atmosphere, pure, strengthening, and fragrant, which may penetrate my understanding, my will, my heart, my memory, my imagination, my whole being. So shall I acquire the habit of praying while I work, without the aid of formal prayers, by interior acts of admiration and of supplication, or by aspirations of love. I ask this of thee, O Queen of the holy Rosary, through Saint Dominic, thy son of predilection, the renowned preacher of thy mysteries, and the faithful imitator of thy virtues. Amen.

Pray the Rosary, pray it everyday for the conversion of sinners, for the conversion of the world. Pray it for peace in the world. Some believe the Rosary is a repetitive prayer that annoys God. This Is Not True! In fact, God through Mary encourages it. When we pray the Rosary we are praying Holy Scripture. We are getting closer to Jesus. How is it wrong praying Holy Scripture? You know what is good by its fruits. The fruits of praying the Rosary is loving scripture, thus loving God. We say the Lord’s Prayer and Hail Marys while meditating on the mysteries of Holy Scripture. The Rosary uses substantial repetition
as a means of quieting the mind and focusing the heart. It is not magic; prayer is not magic.
We pray so that our hearts and minds are centered on something greater than
ourselves, to help keep our minds from becoming overwhelmed by needs, distractions,
and problems, to create a love in us that has the power to heal, restore,
renew, and transform who we are into who we were created to be: the image and
likeness of God.

Mary protects us and she guides us to her son. She makes it an easier path to Jesus because evil is trying very hard to keep us away from Him. For some it’s hard to love Mary, it’s a struggle to love her, to be devoted to her, but if you only knew her you would run to her. If you only believed the truth that Jesus gave Mary to us at the foot of the cross, to be our spiritual mother, you would run to her. Mary wants you to get close to her. The saints had a devotion to Mary. They had a deep love for her. If you only knew her, if you only knew the love she has for you, you would run to her. If you only knew the goodness she wants to pour into your life, the graces, the presence of Jesus, you would run to her and find a refuge, a safe place where you can tell her those things that are burdening your heart. A place where you can be lifted up into her arms, that refuge of her Immaculate Heart. Enter into that place, it’s where Jesus is there waiting for you. He especially loves those who love His Mother, it’s hard for Jesus to say NO to those who are devoted to Mary and to those who pray her most Holy Rosary.

Please pray the Holy Rosary! We need to pray it everyday especially for our priests, bishops, cardinals and the Holy Father (Pope Francis). We need to pray it for peace in our families, our communities, our countries and our world more than ever.
