Why Easter Eggs?

Today, I’m sharing the Easter eggs I painted the other day and giving an explanation to why Easter Eggs. The Easter egg is a widely known Easter symbol, but because it’s so secularized, we forgot its symbolic meaning.

To early Christians, the egg became a symbol of the Resurrection, it represented the empty tomb from which Jesus resurrected. Just as Jesus rose from the tomb, the egg symbolized new life emerging from the eggshell. The egg can be seen also as a symbol of the sealed tomb from which Jesus Christ emerged after his resurrection, just as a chick emerges from a closed egg.

    Hello LuAnn!
Your painted eggs are so pretty!! Thank you for the story behind the Easter Egg – I had never heard it before!
We had originally planned to attend the Easter Vigil Mass tonight, but decided instead to attend tomorrow morning before our family brunch reservation. I hope that you have a happy celebration!
    Easter blessings,
    Jo Anne

    1. Easter blessings to you too Jo Anne! We had a busy day here at my home after we attended the noon mass, but it was wonderful to have my family together. I hope your celebration was lovely.
